Memories from Midmills Road by Gordon Harvey

Memories from Midmills Road
by Gordon Harvey
In 1972, Gordon Harvey, the popular young art teacher at Inverness Royal Academy, created this pen and ink illustration of the old Academy entrance. For many former pupils, teachers and staff, this image captures the spirit of the 'Midmills Road' years. The origins of the school are impressive; dating back over 1,000 years to the founding of a Dominican Priory in the Friar Street area of Inverness in 1223. The Inverness Royal Academy obtained its name by Royal Charter in 1793. Thereafter, in 1895, the school moved from Academy Street to the Midmills Road site, where it remained until the move to the new buildings in Culduthel Road in 1979. This celebration boxed edition, titled "Memories from Midmills Road", is a unique memento. A whisky toast to those special memories and people from the old Academy. Slàinte Mhath
I was out drawing on a fine winter's day, admiring the building and its snowy facade, but it was actually the cat which captured my attention as it stalked, then chased after the birds.
